NNCJCC Meeting Held in Hennepin County

SkylineJMI was proud to convene the annual meeting of the National Network of Criminal Justice Coordinating Councils (NNCJCC) on June 26-27, 2017 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  With the generous support of Hennepin County and the Laura and John Arnold Foundation, the two-day meeting provided attendees with peer-to-peer learning opportunities and discussion of issues most relevant to criminal justice coordinating councils (CJCCs) around the country.

The first day of the NNCJCC meeting focused on strengthening and staffing CJCCs, new initiatives in member jurisdictions, and network planning.  The day also featured guest speakers from representatives from Washington County, Minnesota to discuss the Dosage Probation Program and the Arnold Foundation, the Criminal Justice Policy Program from Harvard Law School, and the University of Minnesota to discuss the Criminal Justice Debt Reform Builder and monetary sanctions in the criminal justice system.

As the host and a member of the NNCJCC, Hennepin County highlighted the many innovative strategiesRoom2 and programs they are working on with help from their CJCC.   On the second day of the meeting, the presentations from Hennepin County included: Dr. Andrew Baker, the Medical Examiner, to discuss the challenges of the opioid epidemic to the medical examiner community; their NOverdose campaign; Adult Detention Reform; strategies for addressing the mental health population in the jail; the Downtown Livability initiative; Group Violence Intervention initiative; community engagement through the Sheriff’s Office; and preparing the criminal justice system for the 2018 Super Bowl to be held in Minneapolis.
