Managing the Internal and External Drug Court EnvironmentDescription The goal of the workshop is to help teams improve the management of their drug court regarding leadership and governance, team building and transitions, treatment services, funding, public relations, information technology, and linkages with their community. The two and one half day workshop is designed for adult drug court teams, including drug court coordinators, judges, treatment providers, case managers, law enforcement representatives, probation and pretrial services representatives, and social service representatives involved with the drug court. Participating teams return home with a plan for how to address the key issues they have identified at the workshop as needing improvement. JMI's Experience with this Curriculum The workshop curriculum was developed by JMI with the help of a team of drug court experts and practitioners, many of whom continue to serve as faculty, with funding from U. S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA). The workshop has been presented 7 times over the past 4 years for drug court teams from all over the country. The reviews are very positive and there is a waiting list for the next program. Adapting the Curriculum for Your Jurisdiction The core curriculum, including materials and exercises, is fully developed. It can be used as is, or, if there are particular issues in a state or region, it can be adapted to address these issues. If the curriculum is to be adapted to local circumstances, JMI suggests working with a local committee containing representatives of the sponsoring organization and potential attendee groups. JMI faculty and facilitators are available to present the curriculum, or we can work with faculty from your jurisdiction. Presentation Options The workshop is designed for multi-disciplinary, inter-agency teams from a jurisdiction. The current version spans two and a half days. However, it could be shortened by removing segments that are not as high priority for a jurisdiction. Each segment is about one-quarter of a day.
