Caseflow ManagementDescription The goal of this workshop is to provide education and training to judges, court managers, clerks, and stakeholders on developing, implementing, and sustaining effective caseflow management processes in trial and appellate courts. This is especially important for new judges, court managers, and clerks of court just entering the profession or those new to management roles - they need to know and be able to apply the state of the art knowledge about case management, the core of a court's role. It is equally important for those who have been working in courts for some time to renew their commitment to good case management practices. More effective and efficient use of court and attorney resources through active management of the time between court events can allow the system to function at a high level with limited resources. JMI's Experience with this Curriculum JMI is internationally known for its expertise in caseflow management, delay reduction, and jail overcrowding. JMI staff members have written extensively on caseflow management, created curricula and presented workshops in a variety of formats, and provided technical assistance and applied research to numerous courts and justice systems. JMI staff members have presented this topic to judges, court and clerk of court staff, and others from appellate courts, general jurisdiction trial courts, limited jurisdiction courts, family courts, and juvenile courts. The presentation can be modified to deal specifically with criminal, civil, family, juvenile, or appellate issues. JMI has presented the caseflow curriculum as a tuition based workshop for individual attendees, on the national and state levels, and to teams from individual jurisdictions on a state level. Numerous presentations on caseflow management have also been delivered by JMI staff at professional conferences. Adapting the Curriculum for Your Jurisdiction Because of JMI's extensive experience, workshop materials and exercises can be used as is, or can readily be adapted to meet the needs of your jurisdiction. In order to adapt the curriculum to your laws, practices, and nomenclature JMI suggests working with a committee representing the sponsoring organization and likely attendees to fine-tune the sessions and exercises. JMI faculty and facilitators are available to present the curriculum and to facilitate the small group activities and exercises that are part of our programs. JMI can also work with faculty or facilitators from your jurisdiction. Presentation Options This topic lends itself to workshops for multi-disciplinary, interagency teams, a setting in which JMI excels. The topic can also be presented to groups of individuals. The normal length for a team-based program is two and one half days; however, it can be presented in lengths beginning at one day. JMI staff can also present half day and two hour sessions on caseflow management and delay reduction as part of a state or association meeting.
